UPDATE: Worth County Schools respond to bomb threat at middle school

Worth County Schools officials are responding to a bomb threat received at Worth County Middle School on the morning of Monday, Feb. 23.

WORTH COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - [Update 2/25] According to a release from Worth County Schools, the individuals responsible for the bomb threats made on Monday, Feb. 23, and Tuesday, Feb. 24 have been identified and removed from the school setting.

Worth County Schools also stated how they will move forward with the individuals responsible for the threats.

The Sylvester Police Department is pursuing charges of Terroristic Threats, and the individuals will be processed through the Department of Juvenile Justice. Additionally, disciplinary actions will be taken in accordance with the Worth County Schools Code of Conduct.

According to officials, the school building has been evacuated, and emergency services are on site working with school officials to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

A release from the Worth County School System states that students from Worth County Middle School may be checked out from Worth County High School. To pick up your child, please follow these instructions:

  • Location: Worth County High School parking lot
  • Entrance: Enter from the West entrance on Highway 313 (Monroe Street) at the school’s digital sign
  • Check-out Process: Park and enter through the gym doors to sign out your child
  • Personal Items: Personal items are currently unavailable and may be retrieved at a later time
  • Bus Routes: If your child is not picked up, school bus routes will operate as normal
