ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — A Dougherty County jury found Ryan Cooper guilty on all charges in connection with the 2022 disappearance and murder of Lacambria Toomer. Toomer’s body has never been found.

But what comes next?

District Attorney Greg Edwards said investigators are actively following up on tips. He said they plan to continue conducting searches in hopes of finding Toomer’s remains.

Edwards said if Cooper were to provide information about Toomer’s whereabouts, any decision on whether or not that would affect his sentence would be up to the judge.

“One of the things that they will be thinking about, I anticipate, will be, ‘Well, what are my chances of getting a new trial or some kind of circumstances that might come through and appeal of this conviction?’” Edwards said. “So I’m anticipating that Mr. Cooper and his defense team will be looking at that and considering what they might want to reveal or not reveal relative to those considerations. So all of that would be things that they will be thinking about. Now, what we will be thinking about, again, is that we will be looking for her.”

Cooper has not yet been sentenced and still has the right to appeal his conviction and seek a new trial. Cooper’s defense attorneys have not responded to a request for comment.
