ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The courts have ordered Susan Embert to be released from jail on Friday, May 24th. Since Embert’s case has been dismissed, she is being released with no special conditions and does not have to pay bond.

Her 2019 malice murder conviction was dropped in Dougherty County after the right to a speedy trial was not upheld, according to a court ruling.

Embert was sentenced to life in prison on charges including malice murder in the 2014 death of her husband, Jake Embert. His death was initially ruled a suicide, but his children hired a private investigator to try to find the truth.

WALB News 10′s Lenah Allen will have more details at noon.
