Temperatures climb and rain chances rise through the weekend
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Wednesday evening not completely dry, as isolated showers and storms push SE across SGA. Expect hot, humid conditions combined with increasing rain chances from Thursday through the weekend.
What to Expect Tonight and Thursday
Scattered showers gradually end by 10pm. Overnight cloudy with lows dropping to the low-mid 70s.
Thursday variably cloudy as highs top low 90s. Look for isolated showers and storms after 2pm into early evening.
Friday: The Heat Intensifies
Friday is when things really heat up — literally. Expect highs low-mid 90s with heat indices 100-103. For outdoor activities watch for scattered showers and storms which may continue into the evening.
Weekend: Rainy and Uncertain
The weekend forecast is complicated by the potential development of low pressure over the northeast Gulf. The National Hurricane Center has a low 20% chance of tropical development over the weekend, which could significantly impact rainfall amounts.
Saturday brings a 40% chance of showers and storms, with highs low-mid 90s. Then Sunday a 50% chance of afternoon and evening showers and storms, also with highs low-mid 90s. It’ll feel hotter with heat indices 100+.
Note that 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is expected over the next 7 days. It’ll be beneficial rain for areas still dealing with drought conditions. However, if low pressure develops in the Gulf, rainfall totals could be higher.
What You Should Do
- Keep an umbrella or rain jacket nearby from Thursday through Sunday
- Plan outdoor activities for early Thursday morning before afternoon storms develop
- Stay hydrated during the hot, humid conditions — heat index values will feel hotter than the actual temperature
- Monitor updates from the First Alert Weather Team if you’re concerned about tropical development over the weekend
Looking Ahead
A more typical summer pattern is expected to return next week, with highs in the low to mid-90s and slightly lower rain chances.
