Early County alum Timpson drafted in 2nd round of 2025 WNBA Draft

(WTVY) - A new area connection to the professional sports level was born on Monday night at the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Florida State senior forward Makayla Timpson was taken 19th overall in the 2nd round of the draft by the Indiana Fever.

Timpson, a native of Edison, Georgia and a graduate of Early County High School, is heading to the pros after a stellar four-year collegiate career in Tallahassee.

Beginning her career at Florida State as a major tool off the bench as a freshman, Timpson transitioned into an every-game starter role for the Seminoles beginning in the 2022-23 season and quickly became one of the most prolific post players in program history.

Timpson would set several records across her junior and senior seasons at FSU. She would become the Seminoles’ single-season leader in rebounds (341), blocked shots (87), and double-doubles (18) in 2023-24, a season where she also finished in the Top 15 nationally in all three categories.

During her senior year in 2024-25, Timpson would break the single-season rebound (350) and block (103) marks she set the previous season, while also finishing with 16 double-doubles for second in a single season behind her 2023-24 mark. This season would also have her push to the pinnacle in career marks, becoming the new FSU career rebound (1,094), double-double (46), and blocks (103) leader.

Timpson would earn several honors with the Seminoles in her three years as a full-time starter for the team, including being a three-time ACC All-Defensive Team selection, a three-time All-ACC selection with two of those being First Team selections, the 2023 ACC Most Improved Player award, a 2024 selection to the ACC All-Tournament Team, and being named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List and as a Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Semifinalist during her senior season.

The former Early County Bobcat will now join an Indiana Fever squad looking to improve off a 20-20 finish last season and first-round playoff exit while building around highly regarded players like 2023 and 2024 number-one overall picks Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark.
