ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Authorities with the Albany Police Department and the Albany State University Police Department responded to a deadly shooting during Homecoming weekend.

19-year-old De-morion Daniels was killed and five others were injured in the shooting.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is actively investigating this case.

The ASU community is reflecting on the tragedy.

“I do give my deepest condolences to the family of that child. Nobody should ever have to go through that. And those that were shot, I wish them a speedy recovery. I most definitely believe that we as a campus can come together to support one another. I believe our student body definitely has love for one another, beyond what events occurred last night,” said Joseph Baker, an ASU student.

“I mean it’s crazy when you come out here and try to have a good time, then you don’t make it home to your family,” said another student.

Those who were on campus at the time of the incident tell WALB that although a tragedy occurred, they are pleased with how law enforcement responded.

“I really want to say this. The police department from Albany Police Department, ASU, and I think I even saw Lee County police. They were really proactive. They really got everything done really fast. And I just appreciate them for doing a good job and securing the area,” said a mother of a former student.

The entire Albany community sends their love and support for the Golden Rams.

“I’m praying for the students here on this campus. I’m praying for Albany as a whole. We put God’s covering over this city. Everything negative, we send it back to the pits of Hell where it came from,” said an Albany resident.

The Albany community also took to social media in reaction to this incident:
