THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - The Thomasville City Council has given the go-ahead to demolish multiple houses.

Chief Building Official Mark Harmon said there are hundreds of houses eligible for demolition, but they selected just five of those to be razed in the coming months.

Community members in the area, like Keith Williams, are relieved to know something will finally be done with these blighted homes.

"I think it would be great because it would kind of knock down the certain people who are doing things in the house and to keep them out of the area and make it a better place to live in," said Williams.

Harmon said they are currently inspecting homes for asbestos and soon companies will be bidding on each residence to be demoed.

Once they've selected a bidder, Harmon said the houses will be removed within 45 to 60 days.
