CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Kent Nance formerly played varsity ball at Crisp County High School and went on to play in college.

Every summer he holds a camp to pass his wisdom to the youth in his hometown.

It's the 6th annual Coach Nance skills and drills camp.

Kids from ages 7 through 15 don't just learn the fundamentals of basketball, but also life.

This year the focus off the court is financial literacy.

Nance has speakers every summer to guide the children for life after the game.

Between the lines, kids have the mechanics of their shots fixed, work on dribbling and skills to help them achieve the goal of playing high school ball.

"It'll make me even better to shoot," said Kelwin Jackson, 13. "And I know I can drive in so that'll be a better advantage like if somebody traps me from going inside, I can always shoot the ball."

"Kids teach a lot of the drills," said Nance.

Kelwin is one of the campers that has been to all six camps.

"A lot of kids have been with me for a number of years. When we do ladders, they teach that as well. I believe if you teach them to be able to teach it, they'll learn a lot better."
