Mysterious roaming pig gains legend status in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. — Residents in southwest Atlanta reported multiple sightings of a mystery pig wandering through neighborhoods.

“I was just driving home from an appointment, and there was a pig,” said Caroline Vaughn-Cooke, a Wellesley subdivision resident. “A big, fat-bellied pig.”

Vaughn-Cooke couldn’t believe her eyes. She knew she had to film the encounter.

“No one is going to believe me,” Cooke said.

Ga. homeowners prepare to file complaints under new HOA oversight law

Homeowners and HOA boards across Georgia are preparing for major changes to homeowner association oversight following the signing of a new statewide law.

It’s not the first time people have seen the pig in the area. Sightings have been reported by residents on apps like Nextdoor for weeks.

“I’d heard about a pig or a hog that was in the area,” said Gary Anderson, an eyewitness.

He said his neighbor told him to carry a golf club on his daily runs.

Anderson said the animal is a hog, not a pig, and probably weighs 60-80 pounds, but he wasn’t about to carry a weapon.

“I’m from Detroit,” Anderson said. “I’ve seen worse than a hog in the morning.”

Once-sunken cannons from Revolution go on display at Ga. museum

A museum in Georgia’s oldest city welcomed treasures from the earliest period of U.S. history — 17 cannons that experts believe sank to the bottom of the Savannah River during the Revolution.

Anderson said he and the pig got to be within a few yards of each other before the pig crossed the street and vanished into the woods.

Where the pig comes from is a matter of guessing, but he doesn’t seem to be struggling for food.

“Someone said there is a farm around here somewhere,” Anderson said.

Southwest Atlanta residents have given him a name: Chris P. Bacon. (Crispy bacon. Get it?)

Mr. Bacon doesn’t seem to want to bother anyone or even notice them, ignoring people in the ever-important search for food.

Augusta puts a hold on data centers — except the one that’s riled up neighbors

The Augusta Commission on Tuesday imposed a 49-day pause on new data centers, but it doesn’t apply to the one that’s stirring up controversy.

“He’s just minding his business,” Cooke said.

The pig hasn’t done anything illegal, other than maybe jaywalking. A Google search confirmed that being a pig is not illegal.

A call to Fulton County Animal Control yielded no answer as to whether he’s been apprehended, but the people of southwest Atlanta hope he continues to evade authorities.

“I hope he stays on the lam,” Anderson said. “He doesn’t hurt anybody. I hope he stays out here and does his thing.”
