Construction begins on Putney Park community center in Albany
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -Construction has finally begun on the Community Center at Putney Park in Albany.
The project faced delays due to soil complications and funding constraints following a groundbreaking ceremony last August. LRA Construction is now moving forward with the 3,000-square-foot facility.
The building will feature a meeting room, a full catering kitchen, and a multipurpose event space for weddings and special events.
District 6 Commissioner Anthony Jones said the project addresses a community need.
“The most important thing, we have to always keep in mind that the people, I work for the people, and this is one of the things that they were lacking was a community center,” Jones said. “We had a small Coon Hunters building, but it was not good, so we had to push that thing down. So now we come up with a brand-new building, and we’re excited about it.”
Construction is expected to be completed by year’s end.
