This Day in History: August 9, 1814, Treaty of Fort Jackson signed in Georgia

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - On August 9, 1814, the Treaty of Fort Jackson was signed, effectively ending the Creek War in Georgia.

The Creek War was a conflict within the larger War of 1812. It was between the United States and the Creek Nation — an indigenous tribe in West Georgia and East Alabama.

The Treaty of Fort Jackson ended the war and required the Creek Nation to give up nearly 22 million acres of land. That land is now South Georgia and almost all of Alabama.
