Lake Park teacher named April A+ Educator
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Ms. Hannah Pope says she wanted to become an educator because when she was younger, her teachers were able to give her the love and security that she did not have at home.
“I just wanted to pour into the kids that I would have in the future generations, the way that I was poured into,” said Pope, fourth-grade math teacher at Lake Park Elementary School.
Pope believes in building up the kids’ conceptual understanding of math topics while also mixing in a little fun. She knows that if she gives her all and tries her best every day, her students will do the same.
“With that in mind and also making the learning fun and just building an environment where children feel loved and safe and happy, ultimately they are going to want to do well if they feel that relationship is reciprocated,” continued Pope.
Pope considers herself incredibly lucky because she has taught the same group of kids for the last two years. To her, seeing them grow in all aspects of life is what makes teaching so worth it.
“I mean, they are such fun kids to be around! Sometimes I forget that they are nine and ten years old. Sometimes I’m like ‘Wow! If I was in 4th grade, I would totally be your friend!’ And hopefully they feel the same way about me and they don’t think I’m too weird,” said Pope.
Those who work closely with Ms. Pope describe her teaching style as enthusiastic and innovative.
“She is always eager to try something new. Her students and parents adore her. She is just an incredible educator,” said Lake Park Principal, Dr. Trina Bush.
