CAMILLA, Ga. (WALB) - The mayor of Camilla was in Athens this week to accept funds to improve the city’s infrastructure.

Mayor Kelvin Owens accepted $1,000,000 in CDBG funds, according to a Facebook post by the city.

The city said the funds will help improve infrastructure in the city that will ultimately contribute to the quality of life of our citizens and overall economic growth for our city.

According to the city, Camilla is one of 36 Georgia cities that were awarded this “competitive funding.”

“As a city, we are determined to be an economic force in our region and this entire state. The CDBG funds awarded to Camilla help put us firmly on that path,” Mayor Owens said.
