Former Albany commissioner found dead in Georgia Power Dam
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Authorities have confirmed that the body of Former City Commissioner Kenderson Hill was recovered from the Georgia Power Dam on Tuesday morning.
Hill’s body was recovered at 7:30 a.m. Employees of Georgia Power noticed a body floating in the dam around 6:45 a.m. and immediately notified law enforcement.
Hill had been missing since Saturday, Aug. 30. According to police, at around 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, the 64-year-old former commissioner was last seen leaving the 1500 block of Georgia Avenue in Albany on foot in an unknown direction.
Later that day, the Albany Police Department (APD) determined Hill to be a “critical missing person.”
A search party for Hill began Monday, Sept. 2, around 9:30 a.m.
Hill’s body was sent to the GBI’s crime lab for an autopsy which will take place Wednesday morning. The cause of death has not been confirmed, and officials were not able to say whether or not foul play was suspected.
“This is where we don’t need any speculations, rumors, or myths. If you don’t know about it, be quiet. Don’t say anything. Be respectful of the family, be respectful of Mr. Hill, and be respectful of the community,” said Albany Police Chief Michael Persley.
Hill served as Albany’s City Commissioner from 1995-2000. WALB spoke to Kenderson’s family on Monday. They mentioned how much this city meant to him and how much love he had for the Albany community.
WALB will have more details once the autopsy and toxicology results come back.
