Georgia Secretary of State seeks to remove House candidate from ballot
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger is moving to remove David Dillie from the November ballot.

A formal challenge has been filed against Dillie, the Democratic candidate for Georgia House District 161, which covers Port Wentworth and Rincon.
The challenge claims Dillie lost his Georgia residency after voting in Nevada’s primary in June while running for office in Georgia.

“On September 24, 2026, the Secretary of State opened an investigation, and the evidence will show that Mr. Dillie cast a ballot in Nevada’s June 9, 2026 General Primary. Mr. Dillie also remains a registered voter in the State of Nevada. Therefore, Mr. Dillie has lost his State of Georgia residency and does not meet the constitutional or statutory requirements for the office he seeks,” wrote the Office of the Secretary of State.
State law says a person gives up Georgia residency once they vote in another state.
The filing asks for a hearing before Nov. 3. Dillie faces Republican incumbent Bill Hitchens in the midterm elections.
