LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) has released a significant update to a November 2023 investigation that led to an arrest.

On November 7, 2023, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigation Division (LCSO NID) was part of a multi-agency, joint surveillance/enforcement operation targeting Brian Chadwick Jeffcoat of Lee County, according to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office.

During that time, investigators previously received information that he was distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl in the Lee County and Dougherty County area. Investigators were also aware that he was under an active status and federal probation condition for prior drug distribution crimes.

Investigators conducted surveillance on Jeffcoat and found him in his vehicle near the entrance of Country Inn Suites on Nottingham Way in Albany.

Contact was made with Jeffcoat and a probable cause search of his vehicle was conducted where investigators found distribution quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to officials. Investigators also searched Jeffcoat’s person and a hotel room where smaller amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl were found.

Jeffcoat was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and trafficking fentanyl.

On Thursday, May 23, Jeffcoat appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Louis Sands in Albany for sentencing, according to the post.

Jeffcoat was sentenced to 262 months in prison, followed by 8 years of supervised release on federal probation. He was also sentenced to an additional 24 months in prison regarding a probation revocation due to being on supervised release at the time of his arrest.

He received a total sentence of 286 months, or almost 24 years, in federal prison.

“Sheriff Reggie D. Rachals would like to thank everyone involved in this case for their hard work and dedication to fighting the scourge of illegal narcotics in our area. This case showcases the importance of teamwork and interagency cooperation,” the post said.

Investigators were helped by the Albany-Dougherty Special Investigative Unit (formerly ADDU), the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Southwestern Regional Drug Enforcement Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
