ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The quest to create a Paula Deen museum in Albany is making progress after nearly two years of planning.

Business woman BJ Fletcher says she's been working closely with the Deens and consultants on the project.  She said Deen's childhood home could be relocated to one of two downtown locations: one on Front street and another at Thronateeska heritage center.

Fletcher said developers may buy Front Street property for a little more than $34,000.

"Well, if you think about it, when visitors come, the first thing they do is they come to the Visitor's Bureau.  And Front Street has got a lot of businesses popping up," said BJ Fletcher, Chairwoman.  "The Riverfront Bar-be-que, Ice Cream Scoops, Flint Riverquarium, etcetera.  And it's be cool to sort of sandwich it right in the middle of all of that."

Fletcher said the museum could draw a lot of tourists to the city and boost local businesses.  She said a final location has not yet been decided.

The museum would include a retail shop as well as a cooking facility for some Albany Tech students and could be open later this year.
