Visually impaired South Georgians are getting help going to college.
Thursday more than a dozen blind students toured Albany State University, Darton College and Albany Tech to learn about programs designed to help them.
At Albany Tech they heard presentations and visited the special needs area of the library.
The goal was to show students they can be successful in a college environment.
Collie Robinson of the Albany Area Resource Council said, "all it means is a different way of doing things. So the transition would be adaptive technology. For instance the computer, instead of using the mouse, we use speech software."
Regina Watts the Special Needs Co-coordinator at Albany Technical College said, "each student deserves equal access. Each student deserves an opportunity to be as successful as they can be."
Today's event was part of a larger program for disabled students funded by a grant from the South Georgia Regional Council.
