DAWSON, GA (WALB) - The Terrell County History Museum opened with a Handicraft Showcase this weekend.

The museum was open during special hours this weekend to introduce their new exhibit, with pieces by past and present Terrell County residents.

A variety of art work lines the walls at the Terrell County History Museum.

"Crocheting, tatting, knitting, we also have some latch hook rugs, beautiful pillows, some wood work, some etching," says Kathy Hicks\Museum Chairperson.

The Terrell County History Museum opened its doors in November, with a show featuring World War II veterans. But this weekend, they opened their new exhibit, a handicraft showcase.

"We have people who have donated things that are relevant to Terrell County, or things that are prior to 1960, is our aim for the history part of the museum," says Hicks.

Both vintage and present day handicrafts made by crafter's from Terrell County are on display.

"There is a little history to each piece, and we have put a little story with the ones that we know the story of so that it is historical," says Hicks.

She says so far the exhibit is getting a lot of positive reaction.

"They were amazed at the amount of handicrafts and the types of things that we have, they just couldn't believe that all this talent came from this little county," says Hicks.

The Terrell County History Museum is sponsored by The Terrell County Historical Preservation Society. The Society is supported by membership dues and by community donations. The handicraft exhibition is free, although donations are appreciated.

The Handicraft Showcase will be on exhibit through August 31st during regular museum hours.
