The end of Radium Springs Casino

Albany - By March, the Radium Springs Casino will be no more. Demolition is set for the Albany landmark, and it hasn't been decided if any parts of the historic building will be saved.
On Monday, Dougherty County commissioners heard the news they've been dreading--saving the Radium Springs Casino is impossible. Now the county is racing against the clock to try to save just a few pieces, like the original timbers and columns.
"I just don't think we have enough time to save these pieces," said Wes Smith, Engineering Projects Manager."But people need to remember, not much of the original building survived past fires and flooding."
The selective salvage project will cost between $30,000 and $50,000, if prison laborers are used. Some money set aside from HUD to demolish the Casino will disappear the last day of February.
