MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) — The director of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Humane Society is addressing concerns about alleged employee misconduct at the shelter.

Those allegations and the response coincide with a private session before Thursday morning’s public board meeting.

The regularly scheduled board meeting began with an executive session, requiring the public, including WALB, to leave the room. The board chairman said the closed-door discussion involved “personnel matters.”

Before the meeting, a resident familiar with shelter operations provided WALB with text messages containing allegations of employees reporting to work intoxicated and misusing animal control vehicles.

However, WALB has not independently verified the allegations or who authored the messages.

The public wasn’t the only group excluded from the discussion. The humane society’s director was also told to leave part of the executive session. Board members have not publicly explained why.

After the closed-door discussion, the director and public returned as the board resumed its regular agenda.

During public comments, the chairman responded to concerns about alleged employee misconduct.

“The only thing I can say is if someone has a problem, they can come and talk to us here in this room. But nobody has come to us,” the chairman said.

“There hasn’t been any documentation of the misconduct that has been brought to our attention.”

The board did not publicly announce any disciplinary action following the executive session. It’s unclear whether the allegations were discussed behind closed doors or whether leadership plans to investigate the concerns.
