Student found dead in pond just months before starting senior year of high school
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) - The body of an 18-year-old was pulled from a Toledo-area pond over the weekend in an apparent drowning.
The coroner’s office identified the man as Anson Crandall.
Toledo police said the situation started last Saturday when officers were called to the pond for a missing person report.
Upon arrival, crews were met by Crandall’s mother, who said she couldn’t find her son after he had gone fishing at the pond earlier in the day.
Toledo rescue crews found Crandall’s body submerged in the water. An autopsy determined the 18-year-old drowned, with investigators stating no foul play was suspected.
Crandall was a student at St. Francis de Sales School. Officials said Crandall was a “talented visual artist and beloved member” of the school who was starting his senior year this fall.
The school held a prayer service at Gesu Church on Monday night to honor the 18-year-old.
“Let us continue to support one another and pray for Anson, his family, and our community in the days ahead,” a statement from St. Francis de Sales School said.
Administrators noted that grief counselors were also there for any students needing support.
