‘Public safety remains our highest priority’: 126 arrested in US Marshals sex offender operation
ORLANDO, Fla. (Gray News) - The United States Marshals Service, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and other Florida law enforcement agencies arrested 126 people in Osceola County, Florida.
During Operation Silver Spur, which ran between June 1 and June 30, arrests were made for registration violations and other criminal offenses.
“Locating and arresting convicted sex offenders who fail to comply with registration requirements remains one of the highest priorities of the U.S. Marshals Service,” said U.S. Marshal Bill Berger of the Middle District of Florida.
Assistant Deputy Secretary of Community Corrections Joe Winkler said, “Public safety remains our highest priority.”
“This operation held offenders accountable and reinforced that those who violate the conditions of their supervision will be pursued,” Winkler said.
Among those arrested were Carlos Jose Rosa, Ramone Miles and Charles Ahmade Barnes.
In addition to multiple child exploitation charges, Rosa was charged with violating the conditions of his sex offender probation. He was previously convicted of eight counts of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim under 12 in 2016.
Miles was found to be using an unreported Instagram account, which is a violation of Florida’s sex offender registration requirements.
He is charged with multiple registration violations and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Miles was previously convicted in 2009 in Cook County, Illinois, of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child between 13 and 16.
Barnes was arrested for failing to report a change of residence as required by Florida law. He was previously convicted in Bradford County, Florida, of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim between 12 and 15 in 2004.
Also during the operation, two people were arrested on non-sex-offender-related charges, four people were arrested twice for separate offenses and two were arrested as out-of-state fugitives.
