OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. (WFXG) — A South Carolina man who ordered a guitar cable recently received an unexpected item inside his package: an iPhone belonging to an Amazon employee at the Augusta facility.

Ned Lucas, of Oconee County, said he initially thought the phone was an unintended bonus when he opened the box Monday.

“I couldn’t remember who I ordered the cable from, but I’m thinking, oh, I got a little gift with it,” Lucas said. “And then I realized it was a cellphone, a real cellphone, an iPhone.”

Lucas contacts phone’s owner

Lucas said a message on the screen directed him to call a number and stated the phone had been lost at the Amazon Augusta facility.

He called the number and reached a woman who connected him with the phone’s owner.

“She was kind of tentative when she answered the phone, so that kind of made me feel maybe this wasn’t a scam,” Lucas said. “And then I explained what I was doing, why I was calling, and she got all excited and she called out to her — I guess it was her mother, or her grandmother, I forget which — and she went and got Stephanie, who was the owner of the phone.”
