Lakeland holds victory parade for three-peat baseball champions
Players sign autographs at meet-and-greet following celebration
LAKELAND, Ga. (WALB) - The city of Lakeland hosted a victory parade to honor the baseball team’s third straight championship.
The parade was followed by a meet-and-greet where players signed autographs.
The team defeated Emanuel County in two games to complete the three-peat and take home yet another GHSA Class A Div. II title.
Coach reflects on hometown celebration
Head coach Matthew White won his second championship since taking over the program. White has been part of Lakeland baseball since childhood, first as a player and now as a coach.
“Literally, I’ve been walking these halls since I could walk. You know, being here as a player, being able to come back as a coach and be a part of the championship runs, it’s just special, again, because this is what I grew up in,” White said. “We say it all the time, like, we believe red and black. And literally, that’s the truth, because, again, I’ve been walking around here my entire life. It’s very special to me.”
Seniors leave with three rings
The senior class finishes their high school careers with three championship rings.
Senior designated hitter Hayden Mullis reflected on the team’s bond.
“Like, I’m so happy we had a brotherhood with these boys. These guys are my family. I grew up with these guys so I’m happy I could finish out my senior year the way I did,” Mullis said.
