Walker Elrod signs with Air Force Academy after historic high school career
BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) - Standout distance runner Walker Elrod has officially signed with the United States Air Force Academy, marking the next chapter in an already decorated athletic career.
Elrod, known for his dominance as a Cougar, leaves behind an impressive list of accomplishments. He is a three-time cross country state champion and a two-time defending GIAA 3200-meter state champion, solidifying his place as one of the top distance runners in the state.

Earning a spot at the Air Force Academy is no small feat. The highly competitive institution requires candidates to meet rigorous academic, physical, character, and medical standards to receive an appointment. For Elrod, the journey was long and demanding, but one he was prepared for.
His experience in distance running helped shape his mindset throughout the process. Staying focused and committed proved key as he worked toward his goal.
“I think everyone has the opportunity to do that,” Elrod said, reflecting on the discipline it takes to succeed.
Elrod’s signing is especially notable as Grace Christian’s first Division I commitment comes with a service academy, an achievement that speaks volumes about both his athletic ability and character.
