Johnson named Albany State University Player of the Week after outstanding two-way performance
Dru Johnson pitched three scoreless, hit bases-loaded double to lead Pirates to 8-4 win
COLQUITT, Ga. (WALB) - Miller County defeated Baconton Charter 8-4 on Thursday night in a game with region implications, reclaiming first place behind a two-way performance from Dru Johnson.
Baconton had beaten Miller 2-1 on Tuesday, making Thursday’s game at Miller critical for region standings.
Johnson took the mound for the Pirates and gave up two runs in the first inning before delivering three straight scoreless innings.
“I lost my rhythm in the first one for a bit but when I got back into the dugout I was just thinking like okay, they aren’t gonna score on me no more,” Johnson said.
Johnson gave Miller its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-out, bases-loaded double that scored three runs.
Johnson returned to the mound in the seventh inning to close out the game.
Miller reclaimed first place in the region with the win. The Pirates can win the region if they win three of their next four games.
When asked what his performance says about his abilities as a two-way player, Johnson said, “I’m him.”
