Worth County celebrates historic season

Sly town lined the streets to celebrate the state champs!

SYLVESTER, Ga. (WALB) -Worth County High School made school history by completing a perfect 15-0 season, capped off with the 2025 state title.

The victory brought celebration to Sylvester, where residents shut down both stoplights in town to attend the championship game.

“I got a good group of kids that fulfilled one of my last things as a coach,” said head coach Jeff Hammond. “And it’s been a long time coming.”

Fans expressed their excitement throughout the game and celebration.

“I was screaming at the top of my lungs, like, during the whole entire game,” one fan said. “Oh, it’s amazing.”

The championship holds special meaning for the community and team supporters.

“It means everything. It’s absolutely amazing. The best feeling in the world,” said Coach Hammond’s wife, Jennifer. “I’m so proud of him and so proud of our Ram boys.”

Former players from previous graduating classes also celebrated the current team’s achievement.
