One dead, another injured in South Georgia weekend shooting

AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) - A late-night shooting in Americus has left one person dead and another injured, prompting a joint investigation by local and state authorities.

According to the Americus Police Department, officers were dispatched at 1:13 a.m. Sunday to reports of gunfire in the 300 block of Pine Street. When they arrived, officers found two males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victims were 17 and 27 years of age, and both were from Americus. The men were transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center for treatment. The 17-year-old, Brandon Brown, was later transferred to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Americus Police did not provide an update on the status of the 27-year-old victim.

The incident remains an active homicide investigation led by the Americus Police Department in collaboration with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
