BLAKELY, Ga. (WALB) - “Between us, Seminole, Miller County, Colquitt, all of us — We’re all tied together, and we want it bad. They’re really good. They beat us last year. They’re one of the three teams that beat us, and we just have a little revenge in our hearts; I’m not going to lie. A little revenge, so it’s going to be a good one," said Early County Head Coach Frank Killingsworth.

Since 2022, the Early County Bobcats have run the table in the region. That was until Seminole County handed them their only region loss last season with a score of 28-12. With a 4-0 record, the Indians are more confident than ever they can take down the reigning region champs.

“We got to try to build off of that, and you know, just continue to stay focused this week and not worry about all the outside noise and just play football,” said the Indians Head Coach Cedric Stegall.

Stegall’s guys have been playing some pretty good football. They’re 4-0 for the first time since 2013. In large part to their offense. The veteran “O,” led by junior quarterback Ellis Denham, has scored more points in four games than over half the points they’ve scored in each of the last three seasons. While the green and white have more of a passing game, both teams have no problems on the ground.

Kamauri Johnson sat out with a knee injury the Indian’s most recent win over Pelham, but after a bye week, the 415-yard rusher is back and ready to go.

In Blakely, ground and pound is the name of the Bobcats game. Running back Devonis Lee is averaging 68 yards per game. As for their quarterback, Evan Grist, it’s about his legs — not his arms. The speedster is in averaging 108.5 yards per game.

“We’re usually throwing it 4-5 times a game. We didn’t throw it Friday night because we didn’t need to. The game was kind of out of hand, so there was no need in it. And we’re not going to throw just for people to get stats. We’re going to throw for a purpose,” Killingsworth said.

“We faced Sneads from Alabama and they had a pretty good run team like Early County, but once again, it’s different. You know, that wasn’t a rivalry game. This more of a rivalry game, and they feel like they got something to prove like we got something to prove,” said Coach Stegall.
