ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - For the past four years, Evans Primus has traveled from Waycross to Albany to play keyboard during the Litman Cathedral House of God Saints in Christ Sunday service.

Of course, there are churches in Waycross, but for Primus, Pastor White and the Congregation in Albany make the 114-mile drive worth it.

“When I came here, they already had a band. It sounded nice and I just jumped in with the group, you know? And I love the atmosphere here. It’s more spiritual,” said Primus.

Priums never minded making the over four-hour round trip every Sunday, but he says he never had a reliable vehicle. His cars would frequently break down, but he still made it to church every week. One time, he had to rent a U-Haul in order to make it to the service on time.

“Nobody could get me here, and I had about $600 in my pocket to go buy me a U-Haul. So, I rented me a U-Haul for the weekend and drove down here. Just so I could be at church because it was an important service for me to be at,” he continued.

Bishop Michael A. White, pastor at Litman Cathedral, noticed Primus’ constant commitment to the church after all these years and decided to take matters into his own hands.

“The Lord pressed upon my heart, one day, to bless him for his faithfulness. So, I got with a few of the members and shared that with them. They agreed, along with myself, to make a contribution towards purchasing him a vehicle that’s dependable enough to get him to and from church, and wherever he needs to go,” said Pastor White.

The days of driving to Albany from Waycross in U-Hauls and windowless vans are long gone for Primus. From now on, he will be arriving at church in style with his very own red convertible.
