Newlywed mother, 3-year-old daughter swept away and killed in flash flood
LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO/Gray News) - A family from Oklahoma is asking for help after a newlywed wife and a 3-year-old child were lost to a flash flood in West Virginia.
According to Ohio County Sheriff Nelson Croft, Jeremy Shotton and Kyleigh Minch Shotton, his newlywed wife of two weeks, were together with their children when the waters began to rise.
Jeremy Shotton took their 7-month-old and managed to get to safety. However, Kyleigh Shotton and their 3-year-old daughter Parker were swept away.
Jeremy Shotton’s sister Braylee Carstensen said she remembers Kyleigh Shotton as someone who never met a stranger and Parker as a young girl with a lot of energy.
“It felt like I never had a sister before and she was a good sister, even before they got married,” Carstensen said. “Parker was a beautiful little girl. She had just turned three on June 7, and she loved to give everyone a chicken impression and tell knock-knock jokes. They were really amazing.”
A GoFundMe has been made to help support Jeremy Shotton and the couple’s infant after they lost their family to the floods.
As of Wednesday, more than $66,000 of its $75,000 have been raised.
If unable to donate to support the family, Carstensen asks you keep the family in your prayers during this time.
