Driver injured in Sumter Co. crash airlifted to Macon hospital

No other injuries were reported.

SUMTER COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A driver was injured in a crash involving a pick-up truck and a trash truck on Tuesday, April 8.

According to a post by Sumter County Fire Rescue (SCFR), at around 11:54 a.m., SCFR was dispatched to a two-vehicle crash that left the driver of the pick-up truck trapped at Hwy 27 East and Middle River Rd.

Upon arrival, responders found a pick-up truck that had rear-ended a trash truck resulting in a collision.

The driver of the pick-up truck was entrapped by the steering wheel and dash with “multiple apparent injuries,” according to the post.

No other injuries were reported.

Air-Evac was notified to be en route and a landing zone was established at the incident scene, according to the post.

At around 12:10 p.m., SCFR reported the extrication of the victim was complete. The patient was then assessed and treated by Goldstar EMS personnel and handed over to Air-Evac for further treatment. The victim was then transported by air to the trauma center in Macon.

“SCFR would like to thank all those who assisted including Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, Ga State Patrol, Air Evac, and Goldstar EMS,” said the post.
