Something Good: Tallahassee woman discovers her grandmother on a postcard at Cracker Barrel

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The magic of a memory recently delighted a Tallahassee woman who discovered her grandmother on a postcard at a Cracker Barrel restaurant.
Kayla Robbins found out about the postcard from a cousin, who was shocked to see a family photo on display at the chain restaurant’s popular country store.
The postcard features a photo from 1934. Four women are at Miami Beach in bathing suits, in the process of potentially taking them off. They’re standing next to a sign indicating wearing a bathing suit is required by law.
“Very playful, maybe a little bit mischievous,” Robbins said.
More good news:
Margaret Brooker Sullivan was just shy of 19 when the photo was taken. She’s the one on the far right, laughing in the sand.
“She grew up in Miami and modeled bathing suits and competed in beauty pageants,” Robbins said. “She had a very full life. She would be thrilled to know this was still circulating in the world.”
Sullivan would go on to settle in Homestead and become active in her community.
Robbins knew the photo shoot was a part of the State of Florida Archives but had no idea a company had licensed the photo to be used as a postcard.
She reached out to that company, and they sent her copies to share. Robbins said she’s sent a few to friends and family to celebrate her grandma’s youthful romp in a burgeoning Miami Beach.
