ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The parents of UGA football player Devin Willock have filed a new lawsuit almost two years after their son died in a car accident involving a school vehicle.

On Jan. 25, 2023, Willock was one of two people killed in the crash, which resulted from a street race between recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy and UGA defensive tackle Jalen Carter. LeCroy also died from her injuries.

The $2 million suit, which is brought against the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents, argues that the board’s employees negligently gave LeCroy a leased UGA Athletic Association vehicle despite her reckless driving history — including a super-speeder ticket in Morgan County.

READ THE LAWSUIT:

The leased Ford Expedition was meant to help staff transport coaches, recruits and their families to different celebration sites after UGA won the national championship. But while driving to a Waffle House from a strip club at around 2:45 a.m., LeCroy and Carter began street racing at speeds over 100 mph, according to the suit.

At a curve on Barnett Shoals Road, LeCroy’s vehicle jumped over the curb, cut a utility pole in half and hit a nearby apartment building. Willock was ejected onto the sidewalk and died, the suit said.

LeCroy’s blood alcohol level was later discovered to be .197, far above the legal driving limit of .08%.

It’s not the only lawsuit brought after the situation. Willock’s father previously filed a $40 million suit naming the UGA Athletic Association, LeCroy’s estate, Carter and others.

Victoria Bowles, a former UGA recruiting staffer who was also riding in LeCroy’s car, suffered serious injuries. She has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Carter and LeCroy’s estate and reached an undisclosed settlement with the UGA Athletic Association.
