Funeral plans announced for Commissioner Demetrius Young
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The funeral plans have been announced by the family of Demetrius Young on Monday, Dec. 30, on his Facebook page.
WALB previously reported that Young died from natural causes in the Phoebe emergency room on Sunday, Dec. 29. He served as the Ward 6 Albany City Commissioner since 2019.
The family announced that the viewing will be held at Martin Luther King Memorial, located at 1908 Martin Luther King Jr Dr. in Albany, from 4-6 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 2. The family viewing hour will be at 5 p.m.
His funeral service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 901 South Westover Blvd. in Albany, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.
Young’s repast will be held at Robert Cross Albany Municipal Indoor Venue, located at 2660 Newcastle Ln. in Albany.
The family said they are not currently seeking financial assistance, but anyone wanting to give can send money to their Cash App: $CommishDay24.
“We want to thank our family and friends for the outpouring of love and condolences during this difficult time. Your support means so much to us,” the post said.
