Street sign vandalism increasing in Thomas County, public works says
Street signs being burned, painted and pulled up in the Metcalfe area

THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Thomas County is seeing an increase in street sign vandalism.
Thomas County Public Works needs your help in preventing and catching the person responsible.
Each sign that is replaced could cost up to $100 of taxpayer money to be repaired or to be replaced.
In a Facebook post, the agency says they are seeing more signs, especially in the Metcalfe area, being vandalized. They are seeing signs being burned, painted, pulled up or turned in the wrong direction. Damaging or destroying government property like street signs is a felony and could be prosecuted as such.
Stolen or altered signs could delay medical services and lead to vehicle accidents. If either of these happens, the suspect could face additional criminal charges including imprisonment.
If you see or know who is damaging the signs, you are asked to call the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office at (229) 225-4151.
