Crisp County senior to follow in family steps
CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) - The celebrations continue in south Georgia. Crisp County senior Kenton “Scoot” Peterson Jr. was celebrated Thursday morning by family, friends, faculty and community supporters. Peterson Jr. will continue his baseball journey after signing his letter of intent to play baseball at Stillman College.

“It means a lot to have the big support system that I have, without them I wouldn’t be who I am. They teach me a lot, guide me through a lot of things on and off the field just become a better person and the young man I am today. Coming into my 10th grade year I didn’t get to play as much as I wanted to, I thought about giving up on baseball but for my grandad to keep me pushing and face adversity just keep on going and now I’m a go showcase my talents,” said Peterson Jr.

There’s no denying what “Scoot” can do on the diamond, but he knows for him to be successful it starts in the classroom.
”Whenever you an athlete playing on a team for a school, you are not just an athlete, you are a student-athlete, school comes first and if you can’t do your schoolwork that means you can’t play so behavior and academics always comes first.”
Peterson will start his journey this fall and choosing an HBCU has significant meaning to him and his family.
”It means a lot going to a historically black college, my grandma she went there and my mom’s mom went there and I didn’t get to see her she passed when my mom was 10. Just to follow in her footsteps and go play at that school means a lot.”
