THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) - A man is in custody following a Thomasville shooting that left one injured Thursday.

Thomasville police were first called to the 100 block of Dowdell St. to a reported shooting. Deondre Byron, the man later identified as the suspect, left the area before police arrived.

As a precaution, a nearby school was put on lockdown. Police said in a statement, “There was never an intruder or incident at the school.”

Local narcotics agents later arrested Byron at a nearby home and arrested him. He is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a commision of a crime. He was also previously wanted for battery and failure to appear in court for unrelated charges, police confirmed.

The shooting victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
