VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - The city of Valdosta is warning residents of a scam where tree and debris removal is being offered for unreasonably high prices.

This comes after severe weather hit the area on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

The city said certified tree surgeons will have documentation proving their legitimacy as a business recognized by the city of Valdosta. They will also have a written estimate, a contractual agreement and will not request payment upfront.

The city is asking residents to not interact with anyone who is not a certified tree surgeon.

Additionally, it’s advised to consult your insurance provider before starting any debris removal or commencing repairs.
