Thomasville nominated for Best Small Town in the South in USA Today poll

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WALB) -The City of Thomasville is once again catching the eyes of the nation. Thomasville’s charm and beauty have made it to USA Today’s Reader’s Choice – ranked among the best small towns in the South.

“It’s wonderful! What a beautiful, beautiful town,” said Suzan Faye from Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The city of Thomasville has a lot to offer as they have just been ranked number two for the best small town in the South.

After winning Downtown of the Year in 2023, Thomasville was nominated for the USA Today poll once again in 2024. Thomasville City Spokesperson Tara Pearson says that – although they’re getting national attention -- they’re still representing South Georgia.

“Thomasville is full of homegrown heroes. So, we really have to contribute that nomination to everybody here - our community,” Pearson said.

Thomasville attracts visitors from across the country. Kristine Stein is here from New York – she says Thomasville’s charm and architecture put this small town on her radar.

“I own a bed and breakfast in a little town called Reinbeck, New York, which is very much cobblestone streets, very Victorian, a destination town, this is so much like that,” Stein said.

Suzan is from New Jersey, and this is her first time in Georgia - and because of a friend’s recommendation, she decided to stop in Thomasville on her way to the Sunshine State.

“I’m very impressed. The people are wonderful, and we heard the food is fantastic so tonight we’re going out and about for food,” Faye said.

“A lot of people come here to experience small-town life, the town is easy to get around, it’s very walkable, it’s a lot of places to stay, and so it just makes it easy on the person that’s visiting. It’s not a hard town to navigate by any means,” Rhonda Smith, the owner of Liam’s, a restaurant in Thomasville, said.

Just like Suzan mentioned, the food is what also entices visitors to come to Thomasville.
