Valdosta-based sorority offering scholarship for 9 South Ga. high school seniors

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Kappa Psi Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. in Valdosta is offering a scholarship for nine high school seniors in nine counties.

The $500 scholarship is offered to high school seniors in Atkinson Ben Hill, Berrien, Cook, Grady, Lanier, Lowndes, Thomas and Tift counties, according to a flyer.

“With principles in sisterhood, scholarship and service and standing firm on their slogan of greater service, greater progress, the chapter aims to further the education of future leaders,” the flyer said.

To qualify, each applicant must meet the following criteria:

• Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
• Provide a letter of acceptance from a college or university
• Write a community service essay
• Provide community service activities performed in their community

The deadline to apply is April 19.
