South Georgia schools announce closures, early dismissals ahead of Friday’s weather

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - With severe weather being possible on Friday, January, 12, some Georgia schools are announcing closings ahead of time.
- Albany Beauty Academy will be closed on Friday.
- Albany Technical College will close all campuses at noon Friday. All afternoon and evening events/classes are canceled.
- Baker County Schools will dismiss schools early on Friday. Baker County Elementary will dismiss at 11:50 a.m. Baker County Middle School will dismiss at 11:55 a.m. Baker County High School will dismiss at noon.
- Baconton Charter School will dismiss early at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany will be closed on Friday.
- Calhoun County Schools will be closed on Friday.
- Mitchell County Schools will dismiss early on Friday. Mitchell County Primary School will begin dismissal at 12:30 p.m., Mitchell County Elementary School at 12:40 p.m., Mitchell County Middle School at 12:40 p.m., and Mitchell County High School at 12:45 p.m.
- Stewart County Schools will have only virtual learning on Friday. All in-person classes and afternoon events are canceled.
- Sumter County Schools will be closed on Friday. All afterschool events will also be canceled.
- Terrell County Charter Schools will dismiss all schools at noon on Friday.
- Westwood Schools will dismiss early on Friday. K-3 through first grade will begin dismissal at 11:30 a.m. Second-grade through Twelfth grade will dismiss at 11:45 a.m.
