Family sues after police chase death

May 13, 2008

Lee County --  The family of a Lee County man killed in a police chase last June has sued Albany and Dougherty county.

Last June, 21-year old Billy Klewitz left his job at Winn Dixie and was on his way to pick up a family member when Bobby Jones hit him head on while running from an Albany Dougherty Drug Unit agent.

Now his family has named the city of Albany, Dougherty County, the Sheriff's Office, Jamil Saba, and ADDU in a lawsuit claiming Officer Gary Price was at fault for Klewitz's death.

Attorney Patrick Eidson was shocked the city and county never responded when they were first notified of the suit.

"Never received any formal response from the city or the county which was kind of surprising, we thought we'd hear one way or the other, but after the time had elapsed we had the right to file our complaint," said Attorney Patrick Eidson of Barnes, NeSmith. & Eidson, P.C.

The city and county will have 45 days to complete the discovery questions filed with the complaint.
