Atlanta -- Bobby Petrino abruptly resigned as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons Tuesday after less than a full season on the job, and takes over as head coach at the University of Arkansas.

Petrino leaves the Falcons after thirteen games, and a 3-10 record.

The coach received a 5-year, 24-million dollar contract from the Falcons when he was hired in January from the University of Louisville.

Shortly after Petrino's hire, quarterback Michael Vick was suspended and ultimately plead guilty to federal dog-fighting charges, and was sentenced to 23-months in prison Monday.
