LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - One Southwest Georgia man recently started a new travel football team in Leesburg to keep kids off the streets and prepared for the world athletically and as young human beings.
Corey Washington started a travel All American Unlimited Football Program called the Georgia Lions just this year.
Young men and women from age eight to 14, will compete with teams in the South Georgia Youth Football League.
The program will help athletes train for football while receiving help with life situations and education.
"There's a lot of kids out there who just don't have someone that can get them out here to practice or even takes the time with them. And this time on the football field for a lot of kids, this is their time. This is their time away from home. Away from any distractions they have at home. There's a lot of kids in this area that goes through a lot," said Washington.
Right now the organization needs the community's help in donations for equipment and protective gear.
Organizers said if you would like to make donations or sign up for the program call, 229-255-0848.
