The Americus Police Department and EMS responded to an incident that happened in the parking lot of Walmart Friday night.

According to Lt. McCardle with Americus PD, a woman was walking across the crosswalk headed to the parking lot.

A vehicle came to a stop at the aisle but was distracted and reaching for something in his car, according to Lt. McCardle.

He turned out into the crosswalk, hitting the woman.

She is in stable condition.

The driver was cited for reckless driving.

We spoke with one man who shops at this Walmart frequently.

He said he believes speed bumps should be put in to keep drivers alert.

"A lot of people don't pay attention and they run the light or run the stop sign and if you have something that makes you catch your attention, you slow down then," said Wayne Patterson.

He also said he doesn't see many people obey traffic signs in the parking lot.
