New companies hope to fill Thomasville Roses property vacant lot

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - It's been a month since the Thomasville Payroll Development Authority (PDA) became the owners of the Roses property.

PDA has heard multiple pitches about what should replace the vacant lot that sits on the corner of Dawson Street and Remington Avenue.

Executive Director of PDA Shelly Zorn said she was surprised to see how many companies are interested in the site.

"There is a need for another hotel, and we don't have one close to downtown. The comprehensive plan had about 10 options for that lot and I think eight were for a hotel. So, there's a real need for it," said Zorn.

The next meeting to discuss which company may fill the empty lot will be in August. During the meeting, PDA will see if the companies have the financial means to begin construction and finish the project.

Zorn doesn't know who will get the site but said the Thomasville Planning and Zoning will be heavily involved to make sure the building matches the historic nature of the downtown area.
