Yoga studio brings Africa to Albany with yoga project
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - There's a special initiative underway at Sol Power Yoga in Albany.
This week, it's hosting two visiting instructors from Africa to help bring awareness for the Africa Yoga Project: Handstands, Hugs and Happiness.
Sol Power Yoga Owner Sylvia Maxwell said this project is about more than exercise.
It's about helping raise money to train so others can enjoy yoga.
"Our overall goal is to bring awareness of what's going on with the Africa Yoga Project in the Baptist community and then locally, this community, and how important it is to empower yoga teachers as they're doing in Africa and Kenya as well," said Maxwell.
The yoga studio also is raising money to help pay for travel expenses for the visiting Kenya instructors.
Sol Power Yoga has two more events this weekend you can participate in.
The first will be a family-friendly yoga event at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Tift Community Market.
The second will be Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m at Pretoria Fields Brewery in downtown Albany.
