Phoebe's residency program sees growth and progress
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is celebrating 25 years of success through its residency program.
Program Director George Fredrick updated the hospital board on Wednesday with the progress they've made over the years.
Fredrick said 63 percent of the 120 physicians that graduated from the program are still working in Georgia with over half of them in the southwest part of the state.
"It shows progress," Fredrick said. "It shows that we're growing and how important medical education is to developing good health care in an area such as Southwest Georgia, which is a difficult area to recruit physicians into."
Fredrick said that by getting those young physicians in Georgia to train, it shows growth and interest in the younger physicians in coming to rural areas instead of highly populated cities.
